Alger is a village in Hardin County along State Route 235. First laid out in 1882 and incorporated in 1896, the community has grown from its railroad-era roots into a close-knit village of 837 residents, according to the 2020 Census.

Remembering Hall of Famer Ray Brown

Born in Alger in 1908, Raymond Brown became one of the Negro Leagues’ outstanding pitchers. A longtime star of the Homestead Grays, he was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2006. His story remains an important part of Alger’s heritage.
